Goals

I didn't set a "New Year's Resolution" and while feeling rather guilty about that I came across a 'project' on a friends blog. So, to replace the "New Year's Resolution" is the following: 101 goals to complete in 1001 days. Should be fun...

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past-frequently simple goals such as "New Year's Resolutions". The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.

2. Stay focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.

3. Welcome failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.

4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.

5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.
Calculating the End Date:
You can easily find out when your project will end by using : this tool at timeanddate.com. My start date is May 1, 2010; my end date is January 26, 2013 (Jesse's Birthday, how convenient!)

So stay tuned, I'll be posting my goals in 3 days.

"Papa, I see Daddy"

A few weeks ago I took Jonah in for his 2 year check-up. After an hour and a half at the doctor's office, I got to leave. There was an intern there from the Children's Hospital in Denver, and she came in and asked me too fill out a developmental survey about Jonah, ie. Is he kicking a ball? jumping with both feet off the ground? etc. Well Jonah has not been much of a talker, (partly my fault cause we're just now taking the pacifier away) and this caused them some concern. The regular doctor came in saying he's obviously not autistic, just talking late. (okay, thanks for the info!) I think the intern thought it was a possiblity since he ignored her when she came in and didn't say anything to her. I was about to leave when he came back in and asked me to do a follow up with my regular pediatrician in 6 months to make sure he's talking okay. I told them over and over that his dad talked late, and I'm not concerned about it. All this to say: yesterday he said to his Papa, "Papa, I see Daddy." Not entirely clear, but you could definitely tell what was said. I'm still not concerned that he's 'not talking' a whole lot, HA! Normally the pediatrician I usually see says, he looks good, keep doing what you're doing. I wish I had gone to him. I don't think this other doctor is a bad doctor at all, I still like him, just think a lot more concern was put on cause the intern was there, than should have been.
Okay, so Jonah is pretty much off the charts for height, weight, head size. 34 lbs, 37" tall, and his head is at 101%. He's just a big boy, which is also no surprise cause me and Jesse aren't exactly tiny people! They also said that Jonah has a heart murmur, murmer?, anyway, still no concern. They aren't concerned about it either. I speak over him that he is PERFECTLY HEALTHY and WHOLE, in JESUS name! (PS my regular pediatrician, who used to be a pediatric cardiologist has never mentioned it!) It probably sounds like I'm upset at the doctor, I'm not, I still like him. So that's my 2 year old update on Jonah, sorry so lengthy.

Today I'm officially 15 weeks pregnant. I've felt the baby move and have another appointment next week. Five weeks from now I get to find out what I'm having. Hopefully, we get a good view. I'm starting to feel better, except I've had a cold the past 2 days which has kinda put me back down in the 'sick' feeling category. I am still napping most days, I need it!

Alaina is still, Alaina. What can I say? She talks non-stop, is curious about everything, and is so so funny. She's got the greatest sense of humor. She's becoming more grown up, doing chores better, helping out with her brother. She's just such a sweet girl.

Jesse went on a mission trip to LA with the youth group in our church. They ministered to the homeless on Skid Row, did community outreaches handing out food to needy families, and went to the beach of course. Pictures to come, if I ever remember to get them developed!

Birthday Party

Jonah and Linus watching Cars on Jonah's Lightning McQueen couch. Jonah put his arm around Linus and bent down to talk to him, pointed at the TV and said, "Lightning" He wanted to make sure Linus knew who that was, I guess.
I made Jonah a Lightning McQueen cake--he thought it was cool. That's his favorite movie. He was a little embarassed when everyone sang to him.

Soccer Practice

Alaina wanted to sign up for soccer. Hopefully she loves it, I can't tell yet, I think she's nervous about her game on Saturday. It was sooooo cold at practice--Jesse said that's why he didn't play sports when he was a kid. I figure, it's not Alaina's fault that we live in a climate with sub-zero temperatures 8 months out of the year, so as miserable as it makes us, we'll let her play. Anyway, I'll take pictures of the game on Sat, and maybe a video.
